PCT 22' Strava journal - Day 4

Pine Valley - Water tank camp ground (Mile 48.7 -68.4)

It surprises me on how I manage to wake up early every day and today especially, it pays off. The sun rise is spectacular and I'm so grateful to witness this! The good views remain but temperatures are quickly rising as well, we find ourselves climbing on very exposed terrain and there is barely any shade. For lunch Bleeder and I desperately try to find some shelter under some low shrubs, using our tent as ground cloth. I take off my shoes and tape my feet (including my first blister) with leukotape.

In the afternoon we keep hiking on sand and stone. The desert isn't like anything I've seen before. The cacti have beautiful pink flowers and the sand is orange/red. After a 20 mile day we finally reach camp, where we join a whole group of hikers. We eat diner in a big circle and I get to know 'Hanna and Gray' from Oregon. We hear coyotes howling in the distance.
